Some politicians, like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), seem to live by the motto, “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS.”

Not so for Toledo, Ohio Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (D-OH).

When he can’t baffle them with BS, he just ignores them.

In Toledo, it is, apparently, illegal to park on ‘unpaved ground’, so residents whose homes don’t have paved driveways are breaking the law.  Recently, Sue Frederick, the mayor’s “streets, bridges and harbor commissioner” starting issuing $25 tickets to those residents who don’t have paved driveways, but insist on being scofflaws by not having enough money to pave their driveways and continuing to park on them anyway.

Faced with questions from reporter Greg Bilazarian about tickets being given out to residents who were parked in their own, unpaved driveways, Major Finkbeiner, first said that the tickets wouldn’t have been given out by the person writing the ticket “unless she thought she would be vindicated in writing it.”  When the reporter responded, “But they’re parked in front of their own homes…”, Mayor Finkbeiner responded, “I’m moving to the next question.  I think I’ve answered that question.”

Undaunted, Bilazarian asked Mayor Finkbeiner if the tickets were just an attempt to help fill in the city’s budget shortfall.

The mayor’s response?  “Could I have any other questions?”

I’ve got a question.  Mayor Finkbeiner, do you have to put a lot of effort into sounding like such a jackass or does it just come naturally?
