Officer Robert Powell on ABC
ABCNews.com has a short bit with excerpts from an interview with Officer Robert Powell.
Officer Powell’s March 17th incident with the NFL’s Houston Texans player Ryan Moats, who was taking his wife to the emergency room to be with her dying mother, has generated a lot of heat for the Dallas Police Department.
A complaint against Officer Powell has also arisen from former NFL Dallas Cowboy’s linebacker Zach Thomas about the treatment his wife, Maritza Thomas, recieved during a traffice stop by Powell in July of last year. Mrs. Thomas ended up being detained for approximately five hours – for an illegal U-turn.
Officer Powell seems sincere and the Moats have accepted his written apology.
I still don’t understand why he took such an aggressive stance towards people rushing to the emergency room – I’ve seen police officers on COPS treat guys they were arresting for possession of narcotics with more civility.
From what I can see, I don’t think Officer Powell is a bad person, but I also don’t think he should be on patrol duty – not until he gets a little more mature, at the least.
